Najważniejsza idea

It's time ma dwa ważne modele. Neutralne "czas coś zrobić" łączymy z to + verb. Gdy mówimy, że konkretna osoba powinna już coś zrobić, często z odcieniem "najwyższy czas", używamy Past Simple, mimo że znaczenie dotyczy teraźniejszości lub przyszłości.

It's time + to + verb

Past Simple nie opisuje zakończonej przeszłości. Pokazuje, że dana czynność powinna już nastąpić albo powinna zacząć się teraz.

High wzmacnia znaczenie: "najwyższy czas", "już dawno powinieneś".

It's about time + Past Simple

About time często sygnalizuje, że coś powinno było wydarzyć się wcześniej. Może wyrażać irytację, krytykę albo ulgę.

• It's about time you arrived! - w określonym kontekście może znaczyć "nareszcie".

Dlaczego Past Simple?

To tak zwany unreal past. Forma przeszła tworzy dystans od rzeczywistości. Podobny mechanizm występuje w Second Conditional i po wish.

• If I had more time, ... - sytuacja hipotetyczna teraz
• I wish I had more time. - chcę, żeby teraz było inaczej
• It's time I went home. - powinienem już pójść teraz

Oba zdania są poprawne, ale nie są idealnie identyczne stylistycznie.

• It's time to go. - neutralne stwierdzenie: pora iść.
• It's time we went. - bardziej osobiste: powinniśmy już iść; często sugeruje, że moment nadszedł.

It's high time vs It's time

• It's time you talked to him. - czas, żebyś z nim porozmawiał.
• It's high time you talked to him. - najwyższy czas; powinieneś był zrobić to wcześniej.

Czy po it's time można użyć will?

Nie w konstrukcji typu "najwyższy czas, żebyś coś zrobił".

Nie: It's time you will find a job.
Tak: It's time you found a job.
Tak: It's time for you to find a job.

Czy używamy Past Perfect?

Standardowy wzór dla teraźniejszego znaczenia to Past Simple. Past Perfect nie jest domyślną zamianą i nie należy tworzyć go mechanicznie.

Nie jako standardowy wzór: It's high time you had apologised.

High time najlepiej pasuje, gdy zdanie sugeruje, że coś jest spóźnione lub już dawno powinno zostać zrobione.

Ta wersja jest zwykle neutralniejsza niż Past Simple po osobie.
