Tell me about a situation when you helped someone.

Tell us about a meal you enjoyed in a restaurant.

Describe a time when you worked with other people.

W oficjalnym przykładowym zestawie CKE pojawia się między innymi pytanie: Tell us about a meal you enjoyed in a restaurant.

Nie wystarczy więc przygotowywać się wyłącznie do pytań typu Do you like...? albo What do you think about...? Musisz także umieć w kilka zdań opowiedzieć historię.

Dobra wiadomość: nie potrzebujesz skomplikowanej narracji ani niezwykłego wydarzenia. Wystarczy prosty schemat.

Jak może brzmieć pytanie o przeszłość?

Rozpoznasz je po konstrukcjach:

  • Tell me about a situation when...
  • Tell us about...
  • Describe a time when...
  • Have you ever...?
  • When was the last time you...?
  • Tell me about an occasion when...

Najprostszy schemat

Zapamiętaj pięć pytań:

WHEN? → WHERE / WHO? → WHAT HAPPENED? → RESULT → FEELING

  1. Kiedy?
  2. Gdzie i z kim?
  3. Co się wydarzyło?
  4. Jak to się skończyło?

Krok 1. Powiedz kiedy

Łatwe początki:

  • Last year,...
  • Last summer,...
  • A few months ago,...
  • Two years ago,...
  • Last weekend,...
  • When I was younger,...
  • When I was in primary school,...
  • During my last holiday,...

Last summer, I went to Italy with my family.

Jedno zdanie zawiera już: kiedy, gdzie i z kim.

Krok 2. Powiedz gdzie i z kim

  • I was with...
  • I went there with...
  • It happened at...
  • We were staying in...
  • I was at school when...
  • My friends and I...

Last year, I took part in a school project with three of my classmates.

Nie potrzebujesz długiego tła - tylko tyle, by egzaminator rozumiał sytuację.

Krok 3. Powiedz, co się wydarzyło

Używaj przede wszystkim Past Simple do kolejnych zakończonych wydarzeń:

We arrived, I decided, We started, I bought, My friend called, We realised, I lost, We found, The teacher asked.

We had to prepare a presentation about renewable energy. We divided the work, and I was responsible for the section about solar power.

Do łączenia wydarzeń użyj:

  • At first,
  • First,
  • Then,
  • After that,
  • A few minutes later,
  • Suddenly,
  • In the end,
  • Finally,
  • Luckily,
  • Unfortunately,

At first, everything went well. Then we realised that one of our files was missing. Luckily, my friend had a copy on her phone.

Krok 4. Powiedz, jaki był rezultat

Historia nie powinna urwać się w połowie:

  • In the end,...
  • Finally,...
  • Luckily,...
  • Eventually,...
  • We managed to...
  • Everything turned out well.
  • We solved the problem.

In the end, we finished the presentation on time and received a very good mark.

Krok 5. Dodaj emocję albo wniosek

  • I was really happy.
  • I felt relieved.
  • I was quite stressed.
  • I felt proud of myself.
  • I was disappointed.
  • It was a great experience.
  • I learned that...
  • I'll definitely remember it.

I felt really proud because it was the first time I had spoken in front of such a large group.

Pełny przykład

Pytanie: Tell me about a situation when you worked with other people on a project.

Last year, I worked with three classmates on a school project about renewable energy. We divided the work, and I was responsible for the part about solar power. At first, it was difficult to organise our meetings because everyone was busy, but we decided to work together online. In the end, we finished the presentation on time and got a very good mark. I was really happy with the result, and I learned that good communication is important when you work in a team.

Struktura odpowiedzi:

  • WHEN: Last year
  • WHO / WHERE: three classmates / school project
  • WHAT HAPPENED: divided the work / difficulty organising meetings
  • SOLUTION / RESULT: worked online / finished on time
  • FEELING / LESSON: happy / communication is important

Jakiego czasu używać?

Past Simple - najważniejszy czas

Jeżeli opowiadasz konkretną historię, Past Simple będzie zwykle podstawą:

I went, I saw, We decided, My friend helped me, The concert started, We arrived.

Dobrze użyty Past Simple wystarczy do wielu historii.

  • I was walking home when I realised that I had lost my wallet.
  • While we were waiting for the bus, it started to rain.
  • I was cooking dinner when my friend called me.

A Present Perfect?

Może pojawić się przy pytaniu Have you ever...?

Yes, I have. Last year, I lost my phone while I was travelling by bus.

Present Perfect wprowadza doświadczenie, a Past Simple opisuje konkretną historię.

Czy trzeba używać Past Perfect?

Nie. Jeśli potrafisz, możesz powiedzieć:

  • I was stressed because I had never travelled alone before.
  • When we arrived, the film had already started.

Tell me about a memorable journey.

Two years ago, I travelled to Berlin with two friends. We went there by train and planned to stay for three days. On the first day, we got on the wrong underground train and ended up in a completely different part of the city. At first, we were quite stressed, but a local person helped us find the right route. In the end, everything was fine, and now we laugh about it.

Przykład 2 - jedzenie

Tell us about a meal you enjoyed in a restaurant.

Last summer, I went to an Italian restaurant with my family while we were on holiday. I ordered pasta with vegetables and a homemade dessert. The food was delicious, but I also really liked the atmosphere because we were sitting outside with a beautiful view of the sea. We stayed there for almost two hours and had a great evening together.

Historia nie musi być dramatyczna.

Przykład 3 - pomoc komuś

A few months ago, one of my classmates was ill and missed several days of school. She was worried because we had an important test the following week. I sent her my notes and explained some of the exercises to her online. She passed the test, so I was really happy that I could help.

Przykład 4 - problem

Last year, I went on a weekend trip with my family. When we arrived at the hotel, we discovered a problem with our reservation. At first, we were worried because the hotel was fully booked. Luckily, the receptionist contacted another hotel nearby and found a room for us. Everything turned out well.

Przykład 5 - wydarzenie szkolne

Last spring, my school organised a sports day. I took part in a volleyball competition with some classmates. We didn't expect to win because another team was more experienced, but we played really well and reached the final. We came second. I was tired but really proud of our team.

Czy historia musi być prawdziwa?

Egzamin sprawdza komunikację w języku angielskim, a nie Twoją biografię. Możesz stworzyć prostą, realistyczną sytuację, którą swobodnie opowiesz.

Odpowiedź ma:

  • pasować do pytania,

Powiedz:

  • I've never been in exactly this situation, but...
  • I can't remember anything exactly like that, but...
  • This has never happened to me, but I can tell you about a similar situation.

I've never lost anything very valuable, but last year I couldn't find my phone for several hours. I thought I had left it on the bus, but eventually I found it at the bottom of my school bag.

Nie wymyślaj zbyt skomplikowanej historii

Im bardziej złożona fabuła, tym więcej słownictwa, czasów i możliwości błędu. Prostsza wersja jest często lepsza:

Last month, I was late for school because my bus didn't arrive. I waited for twenty minutes and finally called my dad, who drove me to school. Unfortunately, I missed the beginning of my first lesson.

Uniwersalne problemy

Warto mieć w głowie proste sytuacje:

  • missed the bus,
  • lost my phone,
  • forgot something,
  • couldn't find the place,
  • it started raining,
  • someone was late,
  • the train was delayed,
  • the restaurant was full,
  • I felt ill,
  • we ran out of something,
  • my computer stopped working,
  • I forgot about a deadline.

Uniwersalne zakończenia

  • In the end, everything was fine.
  • Luckily, we solved the problem.
  • Finally, we managed to...
  • It was a great experience.
  • I felt really relieved.
  • I was proud of myself.
  • I'll never forget that day.
  • I learned a lot from the experience.
  • Looking back, it was actually quite funny.

Najczęstsze błędy

1. Brak konkretnej historii

Na pytanie Tell me about a situation when you helped someone nie odpowiadaj ogólnie, że pomaganie jest ważne. Zacznij: Last month...

2. Odpowiedź jednym zdaniem

Last year, I helped my friend with her homework.

3. Mieszanie teraźniejszości i przeszłości

Nie: Last year I go to London and we visit...

Tak: Last year I went to London and we visited...

4. Za dużo niepotrzebnych szczegółów

Nie musisz podawać dokładnej daty, adresu, pięciu imion i godzin. Wybierz szczegóły pomagające zrozumieć historię.

5. Brak zakończenia

Nie urywaj: We missed the bus and we didn't know what to do...

Dodaj: Finally, we called a taxi and arrived at the station just in time.

6. Panika przez brak jednego słowa

Nie znasz wallet? Powiedz: the thing where I keep my money and cards. Nie pamiętasz platform? Powiedz: the place at a train station where you wait for the train.

W oficjalnym przykładowym zestawie CKE znajduje się np. pytanie: Tell us about a meal you enjoyed in a restaurant.

Jakiego czasu używać?

Do głównych wydarzeń najczęściej użyjesz Past Simple. Past Continuous opisuje tło, a Present Perfect może rozpocząć odpowiedź na Have you ever...?

Powiedz: I've never been in exactly this situation, but... i opowiedz o podobnym wydarzeniu.

Czy muszę używać Past Perfect?

Nie. Używaj go tylko, gdy naturalnie pomaga wyrazić kolejność wydarzeń.

Czy mogę poprawić błąd?

Tak: Sorry, I meant last year. Sorry, I went there, not I go there. Popraw się krótko i mów dalej.

Podsumowanie

Pytanie Tell me about a situation when... nie powinno powodować paniki. Uruchom schemat:

WHEN → WHERE / WHO → WHAT HAPPENED → RESULT → FEELING

Na przykład: Last year... I was with... We decided to... Unfortunately... Luckily... In the end... I felt...
